Mary-Lou Breitborde, associate dean of the School of Education, accepted the award on the school's behalf, and Louise Swiniarski of the School of Education was nominated for the Community Service Award.

Salem State was specifically recognized for its significant role in advancing the field of professional educators from the feeder community colleges of Northern Essex and Middlesex community colleges through baccalaureate, graduate study and professional development programs.

Community Teamwork Inc., a multi-service community action agency serving greater Lowell, has enjoyed a long partnership with Salem State's School of Education on professional development for early childhood educators.
