The following was taken from the Salem Police Department logs for Tuesday and Wednesday. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law:
Tuesday, December 11
1:03 p.m. Police took a report of identity theft.
1:45 p.m. Police took a report from a resident on Ord Street stating that the cable to a security camera on his property was cut sometime overnight. Reporting party's vehicle has been damaged in the past and the camera is there to observe the street in front of his apartment.
2:46 p.m. Police responded to a report of assault on Lafayette Street. Female party states she was punched by male party while walking on Lafayette Street, male party states he was attacked by female party and he pushed her away. There were no signs of abuse on either party and parties not involved in any type of dating relationship. There were no witnesses to this incident. Parties were both advised of their rights to seek a court complaint.
4:10 p.m. Police responded to Buena Vista Avenue on a report of a past assault. After an investigation, a warrant will be applied for charging Noah Martin Jr. with two counts of assault and battery on a disabled person, and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
9:55 p.m. The Community Impact Unit received a complaint from the building superintendent concerning homeless individuals sleeping in the outer lobby of Derby Lofts on Lafayette Street. He requested extra checks of the lobby.
Wednesday, December 12
10:35 a.m. Police took a report of credit card fraud.
11:20 a.m. A hypodermic needle was found in a truck on Jefferson Avenue. Police removed the item to dispose of it.
12:43 p.m. Police responded to a report of fire in a trash barrel at East India Square. Upon arrival, fire department had already cleared, bathroom was cleaned up and a new barrel was placed inside. Search garage area, no one around, no suspects or witnesses. Possibly caused by a cigarette butt.
