In an attempt to break a logjam and name a new city councilor, the Salem City Council will meet again on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

The board was expected to a name a new councilor Thursday night, but couldn’t agree after more than four hours of debate and voting. At the end of the night, councilors were deadlocked at 5-5, with the nominations of Steve Pinto and Lucy Corchado tied. Both formerly served on the council.

The vacancy occurred after Joan Lovely won election to the state Senate, and was sworn in to her new post earlier this week. The new councilor will have a one-year term.
