While a possibly historic blizzard nears the North Shore, some Salem residents might bury themselves in popcorn and blankets at home. But the employees at Finz Seafood and Grill have a different attitude towards the stormy circumstances.
The seafood restaurant, located on Pickering Wharf, is throwing a blizzard party and welcoming Nemo with open arms, $1 oysters and free hot chocolate and coffee.
“If you’re not working, what are you going to do? You get bored really quick,” said Finz Owner George Carey. “We don’t have to huddle in the masses grasping our flashlight saying ‘Here it comes.’”
The restaurant took to social media to get the word out about their blizzard party saying, “We are open! Real men and women eat fish! And real New Englanders go out no matter what!”
Carey added that while he’s encouraging residents to stay safe, the restaurant plans on staying open as long as possible.
“We’ll caution you that if it looks a little out of hand, we’ll make a decision, prudently, to close,” Carey said. “We’re New Englanders. After three days of being pounded by the TV for three days with ‘storm of the century’ you don’t know what could happen, especially when 10 days ago nine inches ended up being zero inches.”
