Arts Alive weekend a success
The promise of blue skies and rain clouds that finally held off led to record crowds at this year's Scituate Arts Association’s “Arts Alive!” Weekend Plein Air Event & Wet Paint Show as well as a new Scituate Garden Club/SAA collaborative event, “Arts in the Garden Tour.”
There was an almost continuous stream of visitors into the Front Street Art Gallery, walking the harbor and on Sunday viewing the five luscious gardens of the tour.
Plein Air painters could be found in the garden, at Lighthouse Point, along Cole Parkway and the Fish Pier. The Wet Paint Show featured excellent examples of painting in open air, capturing the changing effects of light that are so much a part of plein air painting plus the vivid hues of gardenscapes.
The “People’s Choice Award” this year went to Bob Beaulieu for an oil painting of a boat moored near the Fish Pier. In addition, on Saturday there were activities for children, including coloring pages and a coloring book of Scituate scenes created by our own Bob Beaulieu.
The SAA would like to acknowledge the contributions of those who made these events possible.
First and foremost we need to thank Harbour Insurance Agency who once again generously agreed to sponsor the Plein Air Event and Image Resolution for sponsoring the SAA’s “Arts Alive!” Weekend. Thanks to the Scituate Garden Club for agreeing to partner with us on the Garden Tour. A host of artists took part in these Events and then displayed their creations in Front Street’s Wet Paint Show.
We want to thank those of the public who voted for their favorite work. The coverage given to the SAA in the press brought awareness of this Weekend into Scituate and other South Shore households. There were raffles of Garden Art, a painting donated by Gallery artist and SAA teacher Mary Beth LoPiccolo and an arrangement created by Scituate Garden Club’s President emeritus, Ginger King. Thank you ladies and thanks to those who took a chance!
Lastly, the members of both organizations, Scituate Arts and Scituate Garden Club, need to be acknowledged for their time, energy and dedication to keeping Arts Alive! Thank you.
The funds raised from the events are slated to help the various programs and needs of both non-profit organizations, including the SAA’s school and community projects such as the Senior Scholarship Award, much needed repairs on the Ellis House and help with the expenses and improvements needed at the SAA’s Front Street Gallery, an artist-run and association-owned non-profit gallery, a unique asset for both Scituate and the South Shore.
So once more, thank you one and all for helping keep Arts Alive!
Janet Cornacchio
SAA President
