An exhibit of award-winning marine artists George Murray opens today at Scituate’s Front Street Art Gallery and runs to Aug. 9.

A student of Richard Loud, considered one of the finest mariner painters working today, Murray developed a love of maritime activities early on. He spent summers with his grandparents who lived on the water, where shipping and boating were constant attractions for him.

Murray's devotion to his art continued through the years while in school at Massasoit Community College and Lincoln University.

Murray began painting in oils later in life, when he had the good fortune of having as his friend and mentor, Richard Loud, help him with the new medium.

Murray, who now lives in Weymouth, will attend an opening reception Friday, July 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery is closed Mondays.
