$200,000 pot bust in Scituate
A Cohasset man was arrested after a raid on a Scituate house netted 75 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of $200,000.
Scituate and Quincy Police and US Drug Enforcement agents Wednesday afternoon arrested 48-year-old Scott R. Garland of Cohasset, who police say was operating a sophisticated marijuana-growing operation at a rented house at 12 Pondview Ave. Extension in Scituate.
Garland was charged with third-offense marijuana possession with intent to distribute, and cultivating and trafficking marijuana. He was arraigned in Hingham District Court Thursday, where he pleaded not guilty.
According to court records, Garland was released without bail and expected back in court for a pretrial hearing Nov. 4.
Court documents show police collected hydroponic growing systems as evidence from two pot plant-filled bedrooms and a bathroom. Also confiscated were air circulators, exhaust fans, and nutrient and pH-testing equipment.

Lets see...indoor marijuana = small plants, Typically no more than 2-3 ounces dry, trimmed and pruned. With that many plants, more likely the 'in reality' harvest is about 1.75 oz per plant. But lets give the cops and the grower the benefit of the doubt. Let's say he gets 3 oz out of each plant. Generous, I know.
Assuming the grower is AGRO GOD and will not lose one single plant.
Assuming the cops included (as they tend to do in order to exaggerate the size of the bust) weight factors includes unusable amounts of the plant (root, stem, leaf, etc)
$200k worth of marijuana is about $31.75 a GRAM or almost $900 an ounce. For comparison, the typical gram cost in Amsterdam coffee shop (taxed and marked up for a fair and reasonable profit) is about $12 a gram.
On the black market in Atlanta, indoor pot goes for between $400 and $500 an oz, (that is under $15 a gram) depending on how many middle men are in the transaction.
The question begs of their estimate that 75 indoor plants would yield 14 pounds of pot and therefore would yield $200k in sales: WHAT WERE THE COPS SMOKING?
do the math. $30K if he realistically yields 1 oz per plant. or at most $52k for 1.75 oz per plant. Which number sound more scary, 30 or 200?
Cops should know better than lie to people about exaggerating the extent of their impact. It is dishonest and makes citizens tend to not trust anything the police say about their jihad on cannabis.
What is the point of bugging folks who want to smoke ?
More waste of money, and human potential for something you will never stop anyhow.
Also the street value in this story is greatly exaggerated so any young person reading this will know it is bull and assume anything else you have to say is bull also.If you oppose the issue then use real facts, not made up nonsense that has no proof in the scientific world. If you cannot find any , then perhaps your on the wrong side of the issue/
It is time to stop cow towing to the leagel drug dealers of this country and get marimuana made leagle for any adults who wish to use it over the other more dangerous forms of durgs now condoned in our socity.
Cops always inflate drug bust numbers, just as they buy products to try to enlarge their penises.
Stupid comments.
I think it makes the DEA feel good when they exaggerated there bust......sad really...
