A wind turbine that is to be built near Scituate’s town sewer will have to wait a few more weeks before it receives a permit from the Planning Board.

The board opened a public meeting regarding the turbine Thursday night at Town Hall, and will continue the meeting at its April 8 meeting, according to Town Planner Laura Harbottle.

“It’s not something that comes along every day so I think there were a lot different aspects of it  [the turbine] to discuss,” said Harbottle.

Only one resident lives within 300 feet of the turbine’s proposed site, Harbottle said, and the board wants time to give that person the opportunity to meet with the company that is building the turbine and work on ways to mitigate effects it could have.

The town of Scituate and Scituate Wind LLC -- the corporation set up by Solaya Energy of Woburn for this project -- are applying for the permit for the project.

Construction for the proposed 1.5-megawatt turbine could be begin as early as this summer, and could be up and running as early as the summer of 2011, according to a November report to the Board of Selectmen.

The April 2009 Town Meeting approved a plan to use the space adjacent to the sewer plant for a wind turbine, and the contract was awarded to Solaya Energy in November.
