Finalists announced for Gates principal position
The two finalists for the vacant principal’s position at Gates Intermediate School will have their chance to meet some Gates students and other interested parties at an open forum tonight at the Scituate High School Library, according to the superintendent’s office.
Sarah Shannon, the assistant principal at Duxbury Middle School since 2006, will be available from 1 to 2 p.m. and Edward Lee, the principal at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, will be available from 2:30 to 3:30.
According to information from the superintendent’s office, Lee used to be the principal at Hanover Middle School and the assistant principal at the Solomon Lewenberg Middle School in Mattapan and used to be the director of student support at the Clarence R. Edwards Middle School in Charlestown.
Lee has a principal’s certificate from Bridgewater State College, an master’s in dducation from Lesley University, and a bachelor’s in public health from UMass at Amherst. He used to teach English as second language, reading, and science, and lives in Hanover.
In her previous job, Shannon was an administrative intern at Hingham Middle School, and was the eighth grade cluster leader at Blake Middle School in Medfield. She used to teach 7th and 8th grade.
Shannon has master’s degrees from Endicott College and Lesley University and a bachelor’s from Villanova. She lives in Cohasset.
The position has been vacant since the previous principal, Dick Blake, died in a car accident March 31. Since then, Assistant Superintendent Jim Kelleher has been pitching in at the middle school as an additional administrator.
A committee of parents and teachers, lead by Scituate High School Principal Donna Nuzzo-Mueller, has been working to find the replacement.
The principal would be expected to start work July 1. Then, the process will begin to replace Assistant Principal Sharon E. Seyller, who is moving on.
