Scituate Police, Scituate Fire Department personnel, and State Police are clearing the scene of an accident at the Route 3A Rotary in Scituate, where a truck carrying dirt and debris overturned on the roadway.

The accident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on Thursday, happened when the truck was attempting to turn from a northbound direction on 3A to make a right on Route 123, Scituate police said. The turn was too sharp and the truck tipped over.

The driver was uninjured and was cleared by an ambulance.

According to Lieutenant Coyle with the Scituate Police, crews did not right the truck until approximately 4 p.m.

Although none of the streets in the area were completely closed to traffic, Scituate officials advised residents in an email blast to avoid the roads until at least 5 p.m.

Although the truck was leaking oil near the town's water reservoir, there were no lasting concerns about environmental damage after the oil had been cleaned up, Coyle said.

“We just put the truck up on its wheels, and we’re just picking up the dirt that fell out of it. It's winding down,” Coyle said.
