A Quincy man was killed in Scituate on Saturday after allegedly driving his car into a tree.

Justin Giglio, 22, from Quincy was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

According to Scituate Police, the accident occurred at 1:09 a.m. on Saturday morning, with several people calling 911 to report the accident.

When officers arrived to the area of 400 Clapp Road, they saw the 2012 Chevrolet pick-up truck collided with a tree on a very sharp curve of the street.

Giglio’s death is still under investigation by Scituate Police, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Medical Examiner’s office, and Scituate police could not say whether substances were involved.

“It’s much too early. Anything I’d say now would be speculation. It still remains under investigation,” said Scituate Police Chief Brian Stewart in a phone interview.

Police believe the victim was traveling west on the street and was leaving town, though police were unsure where the victim was coming from or to where he was going.

Although this isn’t the first fatal accident on the street - in 2010, the principal of Gates Intermediate School died after his car went off the road, striking a tree on Clapp Road near Highland Crossing – Stewart said the road isn’t especially dangerous.

“Normally we see the accidents there in the winter months with a bit of ice,” Stewart said, saying that previous fatal accidents have not occurred on the same curve.
