Veteran Mac Luciani and fiancé Karyn Sampson celebrated their “Wedding to Remember” on Nov. 11 after winning a contest for veterans held by the Westin Copley Place and Fox 25.

The pair entered the contest in September, hoping to become the lucky couple to win an all-inclusive Veterans Day wedding, honeymoon, and housewarming gifts.

In their application, Sampson, a Kingston resident, and Luciani, a Scituate native, told a story of their love at first sight, a surprise proposal on a cliff in Australia, and their rescue of a dog while Luciani was deployed in Afghanistan as a US Army infantryman.

The dog, Gemma, now lives with them, and even made an appearance in their wedding photos.

After finding out they had won the competition in late September, the pair was caught in a whirlwind of wedding preparations, picking out the dress and cake flavor, taking 10 dance lessons from Arthur Murray Dance Studios, picking out furniture at Bernie & Phyl's, and picking and sending out invitations.

The wedding finally arrived last Sunday, with friends and family gathering at the Westin Copley Place to embark on the next adventure in their lives.

"Everything went great, and married life feels the same as normal life!" Luciani said in an email. "We are once again both thankful to everyone who voted for us and all of the sponsors and especially FOX 25 and the Westin and our wedding planner Jennifer Wheaton for all being so nice and helpful to us throughout this whole experience."
