Scituate officials urging evacuations near coastline
Scituate public safety officials have been going door to door in the areas of Humarock, Lighthouse Road, and Cedar Point this morning, urging people along the waterfront to evacuate before conditions worsen.
Police Chief Brian Stewart and Fire Chief Richard Judge both reported to Town Administrator Patricia Vinchesi that people, particularly in Humarock, seem to be making preparations to leave.

The town plans to send another reverse 9-1-1 call out to residents around 1 p.m., but said the most important message is for people to wait the storm out.
“We just want people to hunker down and regroup after it stops,” Vinchesi said.
In the meantime, officials have been making final preparations as flurries start to fall in the coastal community.
“Right now we’re just waiting,” said Vinchesi. “The snow has started and we’ll regroup [Saturday] after high tide. We will be here at 8 a.m. We have everything in place, now we wait for it to actually happen.”
Vinchesi said forecasts predicting an early start to the snow hadn't been accurate, and flurries started after 9 a.m. without much sticking to the ground..
“They said when you woke up there would be a cover of snow, and it's only lightly flurrying here now. It's going to push out impacts further,” Vinchesi said.
Despite the, at times, dire warnings of the storm, some on the waterfront are still optimistic, looking toward the blizzard as another tale to tell on the journey of harbor living.
“Quit worrying. If the tide goes over 13 feet we will have a first and that is kind of exciting,” said Bob Gallagher, the lighthouse keeper, on his blog.
Gallagher said he has taken a few steps to shore up vulnerable areas around the lighthouse, and today will look to tighten things up even more.
“The only question I have is what to do with the car. I will get that figured out and all will be well,” he wrote.
