Scituate officials have high hopes for the premier of a five-minute video promoting their town, showing Scituate as a great place to visit and live.
Scituate was one of three communities approached last year by the program "Viewpoints with Terry Bradshaw" after producers discovered the coastal community in a search of picturesque places in America.
And though the lengthy process has taken over a year, officials said the spotlight will help promote Scituate for business growth, tourism growth, and population growth.
“I think that it will make more people aware of Scituate and what we have to offer, encourage them to come visit, come shopping,” said Selectmen Chairman Joseph Norton. “I think that’s the purpose of this, make Scituate more better known to people throughout the area as well as the country.”
According to Town Administrator Patricia Vinchesi, the spot will air in 26 markets nationwide, including CNN. The video aired in New York News markets in early April, and has been shown on the cable TV program regularly.
The video points out Scituate’s highlights, including the lighthouse, the fishing industry, and the downtown district.
Norton said the show is mostly a PR piece for Scituate, bringing an awareness of Scituate’s possibilities for those who either want to open up a business or just come venture through the town’s wooded and winding streets.
Scituate contracted with the production company to do the program, procuring $19,200 from Comcast’s cable funds for the filming and writing the script.
Filming took place on Sept. 18 and Sept. 19, and featured numerous familiar faces from town, including two Scituate selectmen, Scituate Chamber of Commerce President Nico Afanasenko, and Scituate Historical Society member David Ball.
The town’s controversial turbine even plays a role, and serves as a marker of the town’s green energy goals.
Other shots include North Scituate, Widow’s Walk Golf Course, and Front Street.
“The response from the people that saw it seemed to be positive,” Norton said, referencing the sneak-peak premier that was played during a selectmen’s meeting lsat month.
Though this area won't be seeing the video immediately, Scituate can start using it to promote economic development within the town.
“Scituate owns the rights and will have copies to distribute to tourism and chambers wherever Scituate wants,” Vinchesi said at the selectmen’s meeting where the program aired.
