Scituate’s wind turbine remains out of operation, following a lightning strike more than a week ago.
Turbine owners confirmed that the machine was indeed hit by lightning during a severe thunderstorm on June 24, and said that every precaution is being taken to ensure things are operating properly.
“The repairs are progressing, albeit at a careful and meticulous pace,” Sumul Shah, president of Lumus Construction and operator of the turbine, wrote in an email. “Several systems were impacted.”
According to Shah, no major problems have been found during the inventory of the machine.
“The repairs have been limited to replacing a few sensors and fuses. However, before we are able to resume operations, we are going through the process,” said Shah, who did not say when the turbine would go back online.
