A Scituate man was arrested on Saturday after allegedly stealing merchandise from the Village Market grocery store in Scituate Harbor and nearly driving into an employee that chased out after him.

According to police, employees noticed the 62-year-old man shoplifting. The man left the store, but an employee ran outside to get the man’s license plate.

While reading the license plate, the suspect allegedly tried to back up into the worker before speeding off.

Scituate police used the license plate information to find the suspect, and went to his Turner Road home.

Thomas Giacomozzi, 62, was arrested and charged with shoplifting by concealing, assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Police said the employee was not injured in the assault.
