Power was knocked out to approximately 3,000 customers in Scituate on Friday, after high winds knocked down a primary cable on Country Way.

Scituate Town Offices closed at noon on Friday; however, an emailed message on the Town Website said the situation was on its way to being resolved.

“The wind knocked out a major primary on Country Way affecting the harbor and Greenbush. Verizon has been very responsive and has been working on it for several hours already,” officials said in the announcement. “A large tree also came down on the Town Common and this was just cleared.”

By 5:20 p.m., officials said National Grid had isolated the issue and would be re-routing power to the Harbor area. Power was expected to return in the Harbor area between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

At the height, the National Grid Outage Map showed 2,520 people were without power in Central Scituate. Another 622 were without power in North Scituate.

According to winds have been blowing between 5 to 27 miles per hour throughout the day, with wind gusts as high as 48 miles per hour.
