A blizzard blanketed much of the South Shore in white Wednesday morning, closing several Scituate spots and dumping eight inches of snow on the coastal community.

Scituate Public Schools were closed on Wednesday. Scituate Animal Shelter was closed to the public, and Scituate Town Hall was set to open at 11 a.m.

According to personnel at the Scituate Fire Department, the effects were limited to closures. Car accidents had been minimal, and by 7:30 a.m., roads were mostly cleared, staff said.

There was no coastal flooding, staff said. Despite the National Weather Service reporting wind speeds as high as 32 miles per hour, there were no power outages reported.

Though storm impacts had been limited, the National Weather Service issued a Blizzard Warning for Plymouth County early Wednesday morning through 1 p.m.

An additional one to two inches of snow per hour were expected, with at times near whiteout conditions on the roads. Wind gusts could be as high as 50 miles per hour.
