Somerville honors women's achievements
Somerville resident Lisa Brukilacchio and the
Somerville Community Partnership for Children will receive awards for
their service to women in the community during the city's fifth annual
Women's History Month event on Wednesday.
Brukilacchio helped found the Somerville Community Growing Center, a community garden in Union Square devoted to educating youth on the natural world, science, community service, and cultural issues. She currently serves as the director of the Somerville Community Health Agenda for the Cambridge Health Alliance.

The Somerville Community Partnership for Children provides support to
parents in search of quality child care, training to early childhood
staff, mental health consultations, and other early childhood services.
Selecting this year's winners was a difficult task, said Sonja Darai, director of the Office of Somerville Commissions.
“We’re lucky to have such a wonderful, supportive community, and there are so many deserving partners,” she said. “However, this year’s honorees have consistently contributed positively to the Somerville community, and we’re excited to celebrate in their honor.”
The event, which will be held at the Lowell Street VNA from 6-7:15 p.m., will include a keynote speech by Chile Eng, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Middlesex County, which serves Somerville. Past award-winners will also be acknowledged, Darai said.
Women’s History Month is celebrated in March, dating to the first International Women’s Day on March 26, 1911. In 1981, Congress passed a resolution making Women’s History Week a national holiday and legally expanded the observance to an entire month in 1987.
