Acting City Solicitor Frank Wright has been appointed to the position permanently by Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone, the city announced on Friday.

In a letter announcing the appointment, Curtatone praised Wright as a “consummate professional” and skilled attorney.

“I asked Frank to step in to the role of Acting City Solicitor several weeks ago and have been inordinately impressed by the seamless tradition and Frank's ability to immediately make a difference,” Curtatone wrote. “He has earned my confidence and respect as an attorney and as a trusted colleague.”

Wright has practiced law for 25 years and spent the past decade as Assistant City Solicitor under John Gannon, who resigned in March to return to private practice. Gannon, who was convicted of driving under the influence of liquor three times during his six-year tenure with the city, was paid a gross salary of $94,070 in 2008, city records state.
