The following was submitted by Cambridge Health Alliance:

Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), a Harvard-affiliated integrated public healthcare system that serves Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston's metro-north region, has been named to Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s 2010 Hospital Honor Roll. It is the second time CHA has received this recognition.

CHA operates the Cambridge Hospital, Somerville Hospital, and Whidden Hospital (Everett) campuses. According to the Honor Roll criteria, the combined performance of CHA's three hospital campuses is among the top 25% of those adult, acute care hospitals ranked on a set of national composite quality and patient experience measures. Hospitals were evaluated on processes for caring for patients with heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and those having surgery. Only 19 Massachusetts hospitals achieved Honor Roll distinction in 2010.

CHA also earned a place on Harvard Pilgrim Health Care's 2010 Pediatric Honor Roll, one of eight Massachusetts hospitals and associated physician groups named to both honor rolls this year.

"It is very gratifying to see our patient care continue to earn industry recognition," said Gerald Steinberg, MD, CHA's Chief Medical Officer. "This performance validates the extensive work of our physicians and staff to improve the quality of care we deliver and illustrates the continued success of our efforts to become a high-performing accountability care organization."

Harvard Pilgrim is a not-for-profit health plan that provides a variety of benefit options and funding arrangements to more than one million members in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. For the seventh consecutive year, Harvard Pilgrim was named the #1 private health plan in America according to an annual ranking of the nation’s best health plans by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)*.
