State transportation officials will hold a public meeting to introduce construction plans and schedule information for the forthcoming Assembly Square Orange Line station from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Michael E. Capuano Early Childhood Center on Glen Street.

A team from the MBTA will introduce the plans and answer citizens’ questions.

The station was spurred this summer by $25 million the city will spend to update infrastructure at the Assembly Square development site, located on Somerville’s ex-industrial waterfront. The station is expected to open by 2014, and will eventually serve the mixed-use development at the 65-acre site, formerly a Ford Motor Co. assembly plant.

Last month, the MBTA selected S&R Construction of Lowell for the $29.2 million contract to build the station.
