Rolling protest billboards decrying potential cuts to Social Security and Medicare are coming to Somerville and Medford Thursday, a national activist group has said.

The billboards, attached to trucks that have been motoring around the Boston area this week, are orchestrated by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare to coincide with a larger protest today at the Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre in downtown Boston today.

The truck is expected to roll through Davis Square, Powder House Boulevard, Union Square, and Medford Center, before continuing to Harvard Square and Porter Square.

The demonstration today will bring together thousands of seniors and benefit recipients who are urging Congress, tasked with cutting the federal deficit, to leave entitlement programs untouched.

The budget super committee, the bipartisan group of legislators tasked with finding the savings from the federal budget, must cut $1.5 billion by Nov. 23. The budget negotiations have largely been kept behind closed doors.
