A Somerville man was arrested today after police said he tried to break into four homes in the South End.

Daniel Ryan, 26, is charged with breaking and entering a home during the day, and receiving stolen property, Boston police said in a statement today.

Police responded to calls of a break in at a home in the 300 block of Shawmut Ave. around 7:40 a.m. The homeowner told officers he saw a man in the patio area of his home, and that the man ran away when confronted, police said.

Six minutes later, officers received a call that a man was trying to break into a home on Pelham Terrace, a short distance from Shawmut Avenue. The homeowner told police he confronted the man when he saw him inside his home, and that the man away.

A short time later, an officer found Ryan hiding on a porch, and arrested him after a brief struggle, police said.

Boston police said they received multiple calls of break-ins in the area today, and believe Ryan attempted to break into four different locations before his arrest.
