Joseph A. Curtatone added his name to the long list of New Englanders with a score to settle this Sunday.

The players in Indianapolis might not know it, but one Somerville will square off against another Somerville when the New England Patriots face the New York Giants.

Brian Gallagher, mayor of Somerville, N.J., offered to wear a New England Patriots jersey at one of his city’s official public meetings “If the Patriots could some how win this game,” said Town Administrator Kevin Sluka in a statement.

In return, Somerville Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone is expected to wear the official Giants attire in a similar setting if New York prevails.

“Game on,” said Curtatone, who is a longtime volunteer assistant football coach at Somerville High School. “This is a friendly wager, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t serious."

Curtatone, fresh from two victories in a weekly radio contest and an early challenge to neighboring Cambridge, appeared to be in a sporting mood: "Our town is better than his town and our team is better than his team," he said.
