Somerville Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone's selection of Muse's "Hysteria" won over a B-52s synth-pop track chosen by Amesbury Mayor Thacher W. Kezer III.

The leaders of Somerville and Amesbury, apparently both products of the 1980s, pitted rock against synth-pop this morning in WFNX's weekly mayoral showdown.

But it was Somerville Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone who rode to victory this week with the track "Hysteria."

It's his third straight musical take-down of a fellow pol in the weekly contest. He previously bested Mayors Robert Dolan of Melrose and Dan Rizzo of Revere.

Amesbury Mayor Thatcher W. Kezer III, who selected the B-52's "Planet Claire," was apparently no match for Curtatone's power ballad.

Voting this week was heavy, an FNX staffer said, with more than 300 ballots cast.
