Local artists are preparing to throw open their doors  for the 14th annual Somerville Open Studios weekend.

Starting on May 4, dozens of artists will invite the public to peruse or purchase at more than 100 homes and galleries in the city.

Artists are cataloged on the Open Studios website, with location information and samples of their work.

Select venues will open Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.; on Saturday and Sunday, shows will be open from noon to 6 p.m., according to the group.

Each artist also will select one work to display in the Artist's Choice show at the Somerville Museum, 1  Westwood Road, through May 18.

New events this year include a fashion and wearable art show, Beyond the Pattern, an open cinema festival and a 15-person spoken word performance.

The nonprofit event also has teamed with A Street Frames to give artists half off for framing fees for works displayed in the event. The business also will discount frames for work purchased during the weekend.
