'Under the Roof' benefit April 21 to help Somerville homeless
The following was submitted by the Somerville Homeless Coalition:
Support affordable housing and community involvement and enjoy a lively event in Somerville, April 21.
The Somerville Homeless Coalition’s (SHC) “Under the Roof” annual benefit dinner will be held once again at Arts at the Armory, recognizing over 27 years of support of the nonprofit organization. Joseph Flatley, President and CEO of the Massachusetts Housing Investment Corporation (MHIC), has been chosen as this year’s honoree. Somerville Homeless Coalition and MHIC have enjoyed a longstanding partnership regarding affordable housing.
Festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m., with an open bar and a chance to browse auction items, followed shortly by dinner by popular Somerville barbecue restaurant Redbones, dancing, and an awards ceremony for Flatley and other SHC partners. All monies raised will help underwrite SHC’s high-demand programs, including homeless prevention, permanent housing, emergency shelters for families and individuals, and food assistance under Project SOUP, New England’s first free supper program. Dress code for the event is business casual. Tickets are $75 each or $550 for a table of eight.
Sponsorships are also available for businesses and organizations, starting at $100. Sponsors receive visual exposure in a promotional program booklet and other benefits depending on the level of sponsorship.
Individuals interested in purchasing either tickets or sponsorship should visit www.shcinc.org. Help SHC honor service in the community while raising money for Somerville’s homeless and near-homeless populations.
The Somerville Homeless Coalition is a nonprofit organization committed to ending homelessness and hunger in the Somerville and Greater Boston areas. In 2011, SHC prevented 225 people from becoming homeless, including 86 children. For more information on the Somerville Homeless Coalition, visit www.shcinc.org or call 617-623-6111.
