The Century Bank at 102 Fellsway West was robbed about 10:15 a.m. Monday by a man police say fled before literally running into a police cruiser.

A suspected bank robber was arrested Monday morning after the fleeing man ran into traffic and struck a police cruiser, tumbling over the squad car's windshield and hood before officers caught up with him, authorities said.

Timothy Walton, 25, of Boston, was scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in Somerville Municipal Court on one count of unarmed robbery after he allegedly passed a note demanding cash to a teller at the Century Bank at 102 Fellsway West, before fleeing on foot.

Shortly after the 10:16 a.m. robbery, a woman who lives nearby called police and described a man who fit the robber's description changing clothes in her yard.

As officers worked to establish a perimeter, Waldon emerged from behind 64 Derby St., directly into the side of the cruiser, according to police.

After the impact with the cruiser, police said he continued to flee, but was quickly subdued. Officers found a large quantity of cash, including bait money handed over by the bank during the robbery.
