Somerville woman honored for work with homeless children
Amy Gardner, center, was honored by staff at Horizons for Homeless Children.
A Boston nonprofit dedicated to helping homeless children has honored a Somerville woman for her volunteer efforts with the group.
Amy Gardner was presented with the 2012 Playspace Activity Leader of the year award by Horizons for Homeless Children, for her three years of service helping to coordinate and organize other volunteers who help entertain and interact with children in shelters.
"Throughout her three years thus far, Amy has been kind, creative, hilarious -- and committed to her neighbors in Somerville," the group said in a statement.
Founded in 1988, Horizons for Homeless Children has trained more than 14,000 community members to volunteer as Playspace activity leaders at the groups' three childcare and early education centers in Boston.
