Get ready to carry a torch this week. The Somerville Chamber of Commerce and the Walnut Street Center will host a children's olympics on Thursday, the groups have said.

The fun evening will feature a parade by Olympians, the Middlesex County Sheriff's department, and the city's police and fire personnel during a torch-lighting ceremony.

Festivities and events will take place at Trum Field on Broadway. A performance by the children's singing group the Sunsetters will open the night, which kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Opening ceremonies are slated to begin at 6 p.m., organizers said.

To sign up as a volunteer or to get more information about how to sign up as an athlete, contact Emma Taddeo, at 617-629-3568, or via email at taddeoe@wsinc.org.
