Some.jpgSomerville police are asking the public's help to identify a man who brandished a knife and chased a woman down a city street.

About 11 p.m. Oct. 20, a 34-year-old woman called police to report that a man had chased her down Franklin Street toward Pearl Street while she was walking home. The woman, who was not identified, told police that she notice a man crouching down near the sidewalk.

When she passed him, he allegedly called out an obscenity to her in Spanish. When he started to walk quickly toward her, she sped up her pace. Both then began to run, he after her, him with knife in hand, police said.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, possibly Guatemalan, in his late 20s, about 5-foot 9-inches tall, and with a stocky build.

At the time of the incident the suspect was wearing an orange polo shirt and dark jeans. The woman said her assailant had either a broken tooth, or a gold tooth.

Anyone with information about the incident or the man should contact Somerville Police at 617-625-1212, and ask for Detective Paul Duffy.
