Somerville voters boost Obama, Warren

Somerville voters overwhelmingly chose to reelect Barack Obama Tuesday, and to send Democrat Elizabeth Warren to the US Senate.

Obama received 28,467 votes in Somerville, compared to 4,865 for Republican challenger Mitt Romney, according to preliminary results compiled by the Globe. Warren received 27,412 votes in Somerville, while Republican incumbent US Senator Scott Brown received 7,038.

Somerville also voted to approved ballot question 4, the adoption of the Community Preservation Act, which calls for the city to charge a 1.5 percent property tax surcharge for open space, affordable housing, and historic preservation projects. The ballot measure passed, 24,358 to 7,714.
