A new ice rink in Somerville is allowing for the city to extend public skating hours, according to an announcement from the city.

The new rink -- which opened in September on Somerville Avenue, near Veterans Memorial Rink -- will host a belated grand opening in January, the announcement said. The rink has not yet been named.

The extended free public skating hours are as follows:

Veterans Memorial Rink: Monday, Friday; 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.; Wednesday, $12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. to 5 p.m.

New rink: Tuesday and Thursday, 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.; Sunday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday hours at both rinks will be posted weekly at the Somerville Recreation Department's website.
