Aldermen in Somerville will consider a request to turn on street lights earlier in the morning so pre-dawn exercisers won't be in the dark.
Ward 5 Alderman Sean O'Donovan has submitted a proposed order asking for the city to turn on street lights prior to 6 a.m. to accommodate for early morning walkers and runners. O'Donovan said he is working with officials from the Department of Public Works to see if it is possible to have the lights shut off in the night, then come back on briefly before sunrise.
"We just want to look into it," O'Donovan said Wednesday, "we don't want the lights on all night."
O'Donovan's proposal will be considered in the aldermen's regular meeting Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Aldermanic Chambers at City Hall.
