The following is a message from Jaime Lederer, Director of Somerville Programs:

Teen Empowerment hires and trains youth 14 - 21 to address the issues in the community. We believe that everyone has a voice and can use it to create change; we do through events in the community that bring together youth and adults, build relationships and move towards positive change.

Teen Empowerment is in its 20th year as an organization and we are celebrating our 7th Annual Peace Conference in Somerville with a whole month - in collaboration with the city of Somerville, the Somerville Police Department, and many other organizations, we have designated April as Peace Month. The overall theme is, "Giving Back to the 'ville, Voices of the Seven Hills"

This year's month kicks off with a show at the Somerville Theatre on April 6th, 7:30 - "Late Nite with Teen Empowerment" which is an all original show that includes theater, speeches, spoken word and music. We anticipate 500 - 700 people! More information can be found here. A full calendar of events for Peace Month can be found here. These follow-up events are important for youth to be engaged, learn about resources in the community as well as be seen as a resource for the community.
