The Somerville Police Department has denied a request from MuckRock seeking a list of firearms used by officers.

MuckRock, an organization that files freedom of information and public information requests for journalists and researchers, is in the process of appealing the denial, according to a post on its website.

The organization was told by City Solicitor Frank Wright in February that such a list did not exist. But in March, Wright acknowleged the list existed and denied the request, pointing to a public safety exemption in the Massachusetts public records law.

MuckRock is in the process of appealing the denial with the Secretary of State's office.
