The West African beat will fill the halls of Argenziano School, 290 Washington St., Somerville, on Tuesday, April 30 at 9:15 a.m.

A select group of students will perform with master drummer and their guest instructor Sidi Mohamed “Joh” Camara, a native of Bamako, Mali, according to a press release.

Thanks to a special grant from the Somerville Arts Council, Camara has been holding workshops during the month of April in West African drum and dance for all sixth graders and seventh and eighth graders enrolled in World Percussion class.

“The concert Tuesday will showcase the students’ achievement and features a performance by Mr. Camara,” said Argenziano music teacher Paul Barringer, the organizer of the workshop. “It will be very rewarding for the youngsters to play on the same stage as their mentor.”

The concert is free and open to the public.
