A horse show created by one of the co-founders of Cirque du Soleil may be coming to Somerville this summer.

Cavalia, Inc. is seeking a permit to hold a 12-week run of its "Odysseo" starting Aug. 7 on a 472,000-square-foot vacant parcel in the Assembly Square district.

The show would be held under a three-pole, 125-foot high big top tent, with 2,000 seats and a 180-foot stage underneath. It is considered the largest traveling show in the world, according to an announcement from the city.

Somerville officials believe the show could bring up to $10 million in revenue to area businesses.

"The immediate financial boost for our local businesses is of course significant, but the impact this kind of exposure can have over the long-term should not be overlooked," Mayor Joseph Curtatone said in a statement.

A request for a special permit for the show will be considered by the Somerville Planning Board on Thursday night. City planning staff have recommended its approval.

Cavailia previously brought one of its shows to Boston in 2005.
