Firefighters in Somerville work to stabilize a trash truck that fell in a sinkhole near Union Square.
Firefighters were on scene near the intersection of Newton and Everett streets as of 1 p.m., preparing to pull the vehicle out, Fire Lieutenant Derek Nolan said.
"They're stabilizing the vehicle, and they're going to have to move it out of there, somehow," Nolan said.
They eventually did move it out of the hole using a crane, fire officials said.
There were no reported injuries, but utilities to the area had to be shut off Friday afternoon so public works crews could reach a gas line under the truck.
