A Somerville man faces an assault charge after allegedly randomly attacking a rider on the Orange Line Tuesday night, according to police.
Alipio Souza, 28, was riding southbound about 10 p.m. when he became aggressive with another passenger, according to transit police. The other rider tried to ignore him, but as the train pulled into the Massachusetts Avenue stop, Souza punched him in the face and exit to the platform, police said.
Police searched the area and found Souza near the corner of Camden Street and Columbus Avenue. A records check found he had two active arrest warrants in Malden and Woburn stemming from driving violations. He was also allegedly in possession of marijuana.
