In a joint effort between city and state authorities, squatters living under the Route 93 off-ramp near Andrew Square were recently evicted from their encampment.

State Senator Jack Hart along with City Councilor Bill Linehan and State Representative Nick Collins coordinated efforts between the Boston Police Department, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department and MassDOT to clear out the area after hearing complaints from South Boston residents.

“Quality-of-life issues are of paramount importance to the community and the actions of everyone involved are commendable,” Linehan said in a statement.

Along with the people squatting underneath the off-ramp a large amount of debris and household furnishings were also removed.

One of the squatters was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant.

“Having been involved in the cleanup of this same location over four years ago, I am grateful for the rapid action of Sergeant Watts [of the BPD’s C-6 district station] in combating this issue before there was a serious issue in the area,” Hart said.
