Students from Excel High School in South Boston managed to make their voices heard at the Boston Debate League's third city-wide tournament of 2011.

With more than 16 hours of debate and hundreds of competitors, Excel students earned 2nd place in the high school division as well as the 2nd place spirit award.

“I think our team did very well,” Michael Harris, debate coach and science teacher at Excel, said in a statement. “A number of our brand-new debaters moved up to JV for the first time, and we got a good amount of speaker awards."

Lucibele Delgado and Danielle Cadet of Excel were named varsity division champions and also took home the 8th and 9th place speaker awards.

Seven other students from Excel also managed to take home top speaker awards in the junior varsity division, including Sydney Cunningham in 7th, Aisha Hirsi in 8th and Fartun Mohamed in 9th.
