As the Boston Police Department works to make good on its pledge to tackle crime in South Boston, it announced on Thursday the arrest of 25 people on outstanding warrants.

The sweep dubbed “Operation Three Ring”, a coordinated effort between the Drug Control Unit and the Youth Violence Strike Force, netted 25 individuals on outstanding warrants for a number offenses involving drugs, larceny, and property damage. The intent of the sweep, Boston police said, was "interrupting the supply and demand of illegal drug trade.''

The sweep comes less than a month after the murder of 67-year-old Barbara Coyne in her South Boston home.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to address the concerns of South Boston residents, officers will continue a targeted effort focused on individuals involved in the illegal drug trade which negatively affects quality of life for hard-working, law-abiding South Boston residents,” said Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, in a statement. “I would like to commend the Drug Control Unit and the Youth Violence Strike Force on this latest initiative and encourage South Boston residents to participate in our continued public safety efforts.”

Residents aware of illegal drug activity are encouraged to contact the District C-6 Community Service Office at (617)343- 4747. Individuals who wish to provide anonymous information are encouraged to contact the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1(800) 494-TIPS or text the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463).
