Pairs of gently used sneakers were collected at the 5K to benefit Soles4Souls.

A recent 5K run around Boston helped donate more than 15,000 pairs of shoes to a nonprofit that provides shoes to adults and children in need.

Soles4Souls received the footwear gift on behalf of Westin Hotels & Resorts and New Balance, officials said.

About 150 employees from across the two companies ran the 5K on Nov 2.

The event kicked off the global launch of a program in which guests at Westin’s properties can, for a “nominal fee,” borrow running shoes with disposable insoles and other New Balance apparel, according to the two companies.

The Westin Boston Waterfront is one of the hotel chain locations that offers the New Balance Gear Lending program, which aims to allow more health and fitness options to guests, officials said.
