South Boston’s Sweeney Playground will soon be renovated by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department.
The city has set aside $400,000 for renovations at the half-acre park that is located near 180 West 5th St.
A community meeting on the renovations has been set for Wed., Jan. 30, at the Condon School located at 200 D St. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The park, which is host to a playground, water feature, and basketball court, was last renovated in 2002 and playgrounds are typically renovated every 10-16 years, according to the Boston Parks and Recreation Department.
Three meetings will be held to gather input from the community and a new design is expected to be generated by late-spring. Construction is expected to begin in the summer and end in the late-fall.
A contractor for the construction work has not been chosen, but Stoss Landscape Urbanism, located on West Broadway, will be the design consultant for the project.
