Jokes. Politicians. Corned beef hash. Irish step dancing. And more jokes.

This Sunday local pols will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the annual St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

Although most of the attention will be on the elected officials as they take jabs at one another, it’s the staff at Levy Restaurants, the convention center’s caterer that will be doing the heavy lifting.

Close to 1,350 eggs will be used to make the traditional breakfast for the 450 guests expected for the event, with much of the work starting hours before the first guests arrive.

When they do show up attendees can expect to add a little to the waist line because the standard breakfast served is around 1,125 calories and includes among beer and pastries, three eggs, four-ounces of corned beef hash, and three-ounces of breakfast potatoes.

It will take the brisket from 12 cows to make the hash served over the weekend and 506 cups of flour to make the pastries. Close to 25-gallons of coffee will be prepared for guests in addition to the 18-gallons of orange juice that will also be served.

Luckily for some of the pols who attend the breakfast they will be walking in the South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which follows a five-and-a-half-mile route and will help burn off some of the calories. Unfortunately it would take approximately 11-miles of walking to make up for the meal, according to Levy Restaurants.
