Famed New York chef Mario Batali and the B&B Hospitality Group are set to open an Italian restaurant in South Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood.

A statement from Batali’s company late-Friday, confirmed months of rumors about his plans for the neighborhood.

The new restaurant, Babbo Pizzeria e Enoteca, will be located at 320 Summer St. with the entrance on A Street.

Unlike Batali’s other restaurants, the Summer Street location will concentrate on wood-burning brick oven Italian-style pizza as well as a variety of pastas, antipasti, and gelati, said a release from his company.

Batali is known for his Italian cuisine and his culinary experience in New York City, where he has nine restaurants ranging from a tapas bar to traditional Italian fine dining, according to his website.
