A man was shot to death late Thursday night in the Cathedral housing development in Boston's South End, police said.
Boston police officers in the area heard gunshots at 11:40 p.m. Thursday and rushed into the housing development to find a 35-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds outside 42 Harrison Archway, spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll said.
"No one was in the vicinity at the time," said Driscoll.
The victim was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The shooting is the 56th homicide this year in Boston, compared with 40 at this time last year, police said.
"Police are looking for anyone who was in the area or heard anything to please come forward with any information on this killing," said Driscoll.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Boston Police Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470.
The officers who found the body were closing out their shift when they heard the gunshots and sped to the scene.
