The Appleton Café has been closed for a month, but will reopen soon, its new owners say.

The Appleton Cafe, a South End institution tucked into the corner of Appleton and Dartmouth streets, is expected to open under new ownership within the next 10 days.

The café has been closed for nearly a month now, after its new owners, Kelly Shea and Lucia Viveiros decided to update the space’s lighting and cabinetry, its bathroom and its decor. The owners have shortened the name from Appleton Bakery Café to “Appleton Café,” and have designed a new logo and will relaunch the website soon.

The menu at Appleton will also see a change, with “fresher, healthier” options, according to Shea, as well as an upgraded our espresso machine. However, Appleton’s traditional staples, like its ever-popular morning glory muffin and the meatloaf sandwich will remain on its menu.

“The cafe has been a fixture in the neighborhood for over 13 years and we hope to build on its existing relationship with the community,” said Shea.

She added that the renovation is complete, and the owners are awaiting final inspection approval from city officials.
